Description
Description
Our QMP Acid / Alkali Storage Cupboards provide a high-performance solution for the safe and identifiable storage of caustic materials in the workplace. Improper storage of acids and alkalis can present significant health and safety hazards, particularly when stored with incompatible chemicals. These cupboards are engineered to mitigate these risks, ensuring your facility remains compliant with safety regulations while protecting your workforce.
Robust UK-Manufactured Construction
Every cupboard in this range is manufactured in the UK to the highest standards, featuring a 0.7mm mild steel carcass and 0.9mm mild steel doors for long-term durability. The unit arrives fully assembled, saving you valuable time on-site. To prevent forced entry, the structure includes full-length heavy-duty hinges with concealed fixings. The exterior is finished in a white epoxy polyester powder coat (BS 00.E.55), which includes QMP’s specialised Germ Guard anti-bacterial compound, making it ideal for clinical or laboratory environments.
Advanced Spill Management & Safety
Handling hazardous leaks is simplified through an integral, liquid-tight sump welded from 1.2mm mild steel, located at the bottom of the cupboard to contain any accidental spills.
-
Spill-Retaining Shelves: Galvanised shelves are designed to manage minor spills and are fully adjustable to accommodate various container sizes.
-
High Load Capacity: Each shelf supports a Uniformly Distributed Load (UDL) of 70kg, allowing for the storage of dense chemical containers.
-
Security: To ensure safety, doors are fitted with a “no snag” 2-point locking mechanism and an all-metal key-locking handle to prevent unauthorised access.
Versatile Configurations for Every Workspace
Whether you require floor-standing, wall-mounted, or mobile storage, this range has a configuration to solve your space constraints. Mobile versions allow for the safe transport of chemicals across a site, while wall-mounted units (pre-drilled for easy installation) are perfect for keeping floor spaces clear. All cupboards are supplied with the relevant hazardous warning labels as standard, ensuring clear identification of contents for all staff.

FAQ's
Question |
Technical Answer |
|---|---|
| What does COSHH stand for and why do I need a cabinet? | COSHH stands for the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health. You need a specialised cabinet to safely contain corrosive, toxic, or irritant substances, ensuring compliance with UK health and safety laws. |
| What is a sump and what capacity should it have? | A sump is a leak-proof base designed to catch spills. UK regulations require the sump to hold 110% of the largest container or 10% of the total volume stored, whichever is greater. |
| What do the different cabinet colours mean? | Yellow: Flammables White: Acids and Alkalis Red: Flammables or Chemicals Green: Pesticides & Agrochemicals Grey: General Hazardous |
| Can I store flammables and acids in the same cabinet? | NO. You must segregate incompatible substances. Storing flammables with corrosive acids can lead to dangerous chemical reactions or compromise the cabinet’s integrity. |
| How much flammable liquid can I store? | DSEAR regulations recommend a maximum of 50 litres for highly flammable liquids (flashpoint < 23°C) and up to 250 litres for other flammable liquids within a workroom. |
| Are these COSHH cabinets fire-rated? | Our QMP Steel units are Reaction to Fire EN 13501-1 certified and have a performance of A2, s2, d0. |
| Do pesticide cabinets require ventilation? | Yes. Our pesticide cabinets feature louvred doors to allow for natural ventilation, preventing the dangerous build-up of vapours and fumes. |
| Can COSHH cabinets be used outdoors? | Steel cabinets are for indoor use. For outdoors, we recommend our Hazardous Bins or Chests. We can also provide quotes for galvanised cabinets. |
| Should the cabinet be bolted to the floor? | Highly Recommended. Floor-bolting tall cabinets prevents tipping, especially when heavy liquid containers are stored on upper shelves. |
| Are the shelves adjustable? | Yes. Shelves can be moved in 25mm increments to accommodate various container heights while maintaining structural safety. |
| Manufacturing & Delivery | Nearly all of our COSHH cabinets are British-made and delivered fully assembled to ensure they meet safety integrity standards from day one. |
| Regulations (DSEAR) | Our cabinets help you meet DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations) requirements for fire-resistant, secure storage. |
